Converting Type to
Outlines
A powerful feature of TypeStyler is the ability to convert your
text objects into drawn outlines so that the letterforms can be
reshaped and manipulated. Once type is converted it can no longer
be converted back to type and its typeface cannot be changed. This
means that if a word in your document changes you would have to
retype and reconvert the new word. For this reason it's a good idea
to save a copy of your document before making the new
changes.
All type in the selected text object will be converted to outlines.
If only a single letter needs to be converted create a separate
text object containing only that letter.
To convert type to outline you need to select an existing text
object or use the Type tool to create a new text object. With your
text object selected choose Create Outlines from the Object menu or
command-shift-O. The type is converted to outline objects and is
left selected. All style attributes from the original object are
retained. You can now reshape the object by adjusting its anchor
points and control lines.
The following show the various stages of a text object converted to
outlines. The next section on Drawing tools describes how to use
the tools necessary for modifying objects converted to outlines.

Break Apart Text
Another powerful feature of TypeStyler is to Break Apart headline
text objects into multiple objects. Each character becomes a
separate TypeStyler object that has been converted to outlines so
that each of the new letterforms can be reshaped and manipulated as
opposed to Convert to Outlines that keeps the converted object as a
single TypeStyler Object. Once type has been broken apart it can no
longer be converted back to editable type and its typeface cannot
be changed. This means that if a word in your document changes you
would have to retype and reconvert the new word. For this reason
it's a good idea to save a copy of your document before making the
new changes.
To convert type to outline you need to select an existing text
object or use the Headline Type tool to create a new text object.
With your text object selected choose Break Apart text from the
Object menu. The type is broken into individual TypeStyler outline
objects and is left selected. All style attributes from the
original object are retained. You can now reshape the object by
adjusting its anchor points and control lines.
